Study sites

The study sites used by RGIS are distributed accross the Haida Gwaii archipelago:  this includes the large islands of Moresby and Graham and, especially, the small islands in Laskeek Bay on the east coast of Moresby.

Laskeek Bay is a natural laboratory, with islands of different deer browsing histories: islands where deer are absent, islands where deer are present, Reef Island where deer population has been reduced and the Skedans Islands where deer came more recently.

RGIS has a field camp on
Reef Island, from which all the other islands of the laboratory are accessible.

RGIS also has study sites in Gwaii Haanas.

Transportation to the research sites is by small boats.
